001 002 003 004 005 006 007 Nina and my big night out. We were headed to Ninja Tune night and I borrowed Lukes really scarry bike to get there. All dressed up, cold out and bare shouldered, I arrived at the club and realized that I had left my ID and cash at home. I waited for nina for about an hour with about a 10 minute walk around the block and went back to the apartment. She had arrived there at the club (of corse) during the time I was gone. Wee. We were both too tired to trek back, so we stayed in. 008 This is Nina. Nina is Lukes (then fiancee) wife. Nina is from Croatia and has lots of good stories. She rocks. We were walking around Berlin on Saturday night kind of down where Tacheles is located and as usual I had a stack of flyers promoting Faernyn's Grove Corsetry. I see this woman on the street wearing a corset, white button up man-shirt, jeans, high heels, and a hip sack. Excitedly and apparent I ran up to this woman who spoke no english and waved my flyer around saying 'corset, I do cor-sets, see?' as I pointed to the picture on the flyer. She gave me a very confused look and cocked a half smile while taking my flyer and I was off. Whoa! What is this? ANOTHER woman wearing a corset, man-shirt, and hip sack.. Oh boy! So I give her the same shpeal. After the 5th chick Nina up there is crouched over holding her stomach in laughter. 'What. what? This is great.. corsets are so 'in' in Berlin!' I exclaimed. 009 There were more Vanagons there than termites on a chimp stick. This one was one of my favorites. 010 011 On my birthday I was feeling pretty depressed. I don't even exactly remember why.. something had gone amiss and I really missed Kai. So I decided to get out of my head and go on a frightful big metal bird that moved all around and squaked and lit up if you put a Euro in em. May the mission ensue... 012 With the housing being cramped as it is in European cities, each communal housing facility had these courtyards in the back. A lot of them had such character and this was one of my favorites. For the most part they were all private and many of them locked, but it didn't stop me from getting in to several (bwa haha). 013 Success.. it wasn't easy folks.. I had to mock the chicken dance and act like a robot to more than one german in the neighborhood to figure out where this place was. It was not a tourist attraction nor a particularly popular place. The prime definition of underground. There was a little book/record store upstairs and the sculpture did indeed move a squake in response to my euro treat. 014 015 Yep, another one. 016 There was a definate culture in the graffiti there. 017 018 Peep hole out of Nina and Lukes apartment. It was pretty cool. Right out of the communist era. All the rooms had locking doors that closed each one from the others, the floors were red, the ceilings were tiled. Tiny appliances and an on demand water heater that was everywhere over there... It just made sense! Why do we have these huge water heaters that take forever to heatup once it runs out and takes all this electricity... 019 I get tired of Berlin and feel the need to leave the city. I was on my way to Offenburg to meet a friend from Austin that was visiting her family there. We had plans to see the Black Forest and castles for a few days. I didn't want to purchase the $100 4 hour Express train ticket so I got myself into the 29 Euro weekend pass that taught me a very valuable lesson. 14 hours, 5 train changes, 2 cucumber and butter bagettes, and 1 disgruntled german teenager later I'm dropped in Offenburg 20 minutes late at 12:20am. I had no sleep on any of the trains and had only eaten what I listed in 14 hours and was looking forward to seeing my friend Z. Well, they left when my train didn't arrive, didn't want to come back in the rain, and I was left without a ride. Offenburg, fyi, is a tiny little town that has street lights congregated around the train station only. Everything including the 1 hotel's lobby closed early, no cabbies were around, no hostels to be found. It was pretty cold and I only had summer clothes and that light jacket you see. I'm cold, a bottle of soymilk had broken in one of my bags, tired, hungry, and the only other heartbeat had a better idea of how he wanted to spend his evening. I called Smitty in tears and heard his tale of how he had just finished wakeboarding in 90 degree beautiful Lake Travis, weee. I hung up and walked to said Creepo who worked at the station when the next train left for Zurich, my next destination. We figured we couldn't communicate so he attempted to kiss me. Fish lipped, puckered, and in my face fast I jolted my arm to get him away and got out of there fast. The next train to Zurich wasn't until 4:30 AM, 4 hours away! I stuffed myself into a baggage locker to get some resemblence of sleep and waited out the ride. This is my happy arse just before the train arrived. 021 The morning I arrived in Zurich it was 7.30am and I had no where to go. I had no sleep or anything to eat for 24 hours at that point and I was truly a wreck. My face was swollen, my speech mimiced that of a crack daddy trying to coddle his toy poodle, and I literally couldn't stand up strait. I schleped my bags with inhuman motivation to the nearest hostile and begged for a room. I slept (get this) for 20 HOURS strait! Woke up, ate dinner with Josh and Elise and went back to bed for another 8 hours. It was intense. When awoke for the second coming I met a lovely girl named Erin from Olympia, Washington. She was a doll and a saviour, if not for the the fact that she spoke English with an american accent. I never thought that would be music to my exausted brain. We only had one beautiful day together and we celebrated with a visit to the Dalai Lama exibit. It was incredible.. words don't do it justice. It had many original mandalas, letters, artifacts, etc. 023 024 Everyone, meet Erin. You're a goddess sweetheart.. you really pulled me out of a funk. 025 026 I saw this billboard everywhere in every country I traveled. I thought it was so interesting, so inviting, really cool. Then I found out that it was a cigarette ad. Way to go tobaccoo.. 027 Some friends of Elise's took me to the Rhine fall. The biggest waterfall in Europe. I was so excited.. and then we showed up. It was lovely, exilerating, inviting and angry and yet, and yet.. I was expecting the TALLEST waterfall in europe. I wasn't thinking the widest. It was cool, don't get me wrong.. a ton of water, but no, it was not the tallest. 028 This is peter. He's from Austria and was with us on the trip to the Rhine. 029 030 More of the Rhine. We took a boat out to the bottom of the falls to get closer pictures. The castle at the top I heard was still used as a castle to this day. Didn't get to go in, so I don't know. 031 In Wintertur, about an hour north of Zurich, was a music festival going on. I went for the reggae night which was pretty cool, and the swiss pop night, which was absolutely not, and then this night.. Mouse on Mars baby. It was so awesome! I went alone and ended up standing butted up against the stage. My bag was on the stage for safe watch! I turned around and took a picture of the audience.. I wish that I had THAT dudes email... I took some little movies of MOM but no pictures.. not sure why. I danced my tail off and met a bunch of people that night. None of which will remember me I'm sure as I think I was the only sober and strait one there. 032 Views out of Kyburg Castle. 033 Things there were old man.. really really old. Furniture from 1200ad. it was just mind blowing for this american. i went there with a girl who grew up only 20 minutes away from Kyburg and when I was expressing my innocent bliss at the antiquity of the place she was like 'eh, big whoop'. Which I can understand.. we're like 'eh, big whoop' when it comes to ordering a Whopper (which of corse, I would never do, but we'll stick it out for metaphor's sake) but what would someone from Somalia think walking into a Mcdonalds? 034 Once in Zurich I borrowed Josh's car for a joyride one day. Thats me in the little honda in the reflection of this here Lotus. I became pretty lost up in the mountain roads outside of Zurich.
